Route 62 winds inland through the Klein Karoo, a slower and quieter counterpart to the coastal Garden Route. It threads together dorpies (small towns), farm stalls and vineyards beneath the Swartberg and Langeberg mountains, and is widely promoted as one of the world's longest wine routes.
Expect big skies, roadside padstals, and a string of small cellars — Calitzdorp's ports among the best-known — with the ostrich farms and Cango Caves of Oudtshoorn near the eastern end.
