Ballito — Willard Beach

Willard Beach anchors the seaside town of Ballito on KwaZulu-Natal's Dolphin Coast, roughly 40 km north of Durban, where the Indian Ocean stays warm and swimmable through much of the year. The beach carries full Blue Flag status for the 2025/26 season — an international eco-label administered in South Africa by WESSA that certifies bathing-water quality, safety and facilities — and with lifeguards, sheltered bathing and a gentle setting it is a well-established family-friendly spot. (Willard had briefly lost the accolade for 2024/25 over water-quality issues before being reinstated to full status for 2025/26.)

Willard Beach is also the stage for the Ballito Pro presented by O'Neill, a World Surf League Challenger Series contest that draws top international surfers; the 2026 edition — the event's 57th — ran at Willard Beach in July. As one of South Africa's longest-running professional surf events, it pairs high-level competition with a beach-festival atmosphere, underlining Ballito's identity as both a family holiday town and a serious surf destination.
